A film in which Peter Cushing breaks our hearts before ripping one out; a group of visually impaired men don’t let it stop them from indulging in some amateur carpentry; and Joan Collins is horrified to discover her husband has crimson poster paint running through his veins. Lee Good evening and welcome to horror. I'm Lee.
Chris I'm Chris.
Adam I'm Adam.
Jennifer I'm Jennifer.
Lee And we're here this evening for a less festive but still slightly festive episode of Welcome to Horror. Um, so we are here this evening to discuss 1972's Amicus Classic, Tales from the Crypt.
Lee But before we get into that, Chris, have you had the opportunity to watch anything in the last week?
Chris I have, I have watched something. This was a recommendation from a wonderful man. This was Blackadder's Christmas Carol.
Jennifer Hey. Hey. Hey. You've seen that.
Chris I haven't, no. No, I definitely should have.
Chris Now, having watched some Blackadder, I can't say I've watched every single episode but I've definitely seen at least a few episodes from the different seasons.
Chris And it's this is great because obviously it turns it on its head and you're like, what? He's lovely. What's going on, you know?
Chris And all throughout, he's he's wonderful and then, yeah, it's it's just great the way the way it then shows him how really to to do well in life you've got to be awful.
Chris And then you're like it's funny, you know, it's funny throughout and at the end it's like, yeah, that's good. And then of course there's another twist finally.
Chris Because it can't just end nice for him, can it?
Lee Yeah.
Adam It's weird because I I'm thinking about it, it feel it has the same weird feeling that you get with in Doctor Who regeneration stories, like the first like a doctor's first episode, they're all over the place and they're meant to be shook up, so they're not themselves. Things get to a really bad point and then snap, they're going to be they are the doctor they're going to be.
Chris Oh, what they take it on and it's like.
Adam Yeah. And then it's like the punch the air moment.
Adam And that is what you get with Blackadder's Christmas Carol when you've had to sit there and watch poor Blackadder get shat on all the way through.
Chris Yeah.
Adam And then it's like, that's it. Yeah.
Adam When he just turns, it's
Adam Yeah, I mean, the round of applause for chucking an urchin out of a window.
Jennifer Oh, that's great.
Lee Just I've I must have seen that 25 times and it and it still makes me belly laugh every single time.
Jennifer Yeah.
Chris Yeah, I can imagine.
Jennifer We watch it now, don't we? And it's just hilarious.
Lee Such good timing. It's just perfect.
Chris And of course, it does go with tonight's episode because it's about, you know, being evil and what can happen to you if you're evil.
Adam And it's kind of an anthology film.
Chris Yeah, that's true.
Adam Because you get the little segments.
Chris Yeah.
Adam So like little contains stories with a wrap around story. So it is yeah.
Lee Yeah, you're right, it is, yeah. I never thought of it that way before, but it is, it is an anthology episode, yeah.
Chris I'm I'm being convinced this might be the way to do every single film from now on.
Lee Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Lee Excellent. Yeah, so you're coming around to our way of thinking now.
Chris I'm on I'm on my anthology honeymoon at the moment.
