Unknown Good evening everyone and welcome to the Mos Eisley Happy Hour.
Unknown I am Adam and I am joined by Wesley Sith.
Unknown Hello.
Unknown And I am joined by C A 88 aka Chris.
Chris Hello.
Adam And we are here today to join together in holy matrimony. Sorry, wrong session.
Adam No, we are here today to talk about Star Wars, Episode 7, The Force Awakens.
Adam And yes.
Chris I still get a tingle of anticipation when it gets mentioned. that was a big thing I remembered.
Adam You know.
Adam I'm assuming, did we all, did we all see this, were we all cinema for this one?
Adam Yep.
Chris Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Adam I thought so.
Adam It was the yeah, that level of anticipation was.
Chris But it is funny though because I can't remember exactly now why we were so excited for this one.
Chris I mean, I guess was it because we knew it was J J Abrams and he'd done some good stuff, Star Trek was definitely you know, the one that I knew of him but you know, because after the prequels you might think it would be like, oh, they might it might not be that good.
Adam If I, if I remember rightly.
Lee Go on, man.
Adam For me, it was a case of because they'd already announced that there was going to be so many of the original trilogy in it.
Adam You knew it was going to be a direct carry on from an extension of what we knew and loved rather than a prequel.
Chris Yeah.
Chris I I was remember as I was watching it, I was remembering the trailers that came out and they definitely had a big effect on me seeing like the Millennium Falcon.
Chris I mean, obviously, this is for for talking in a few more minutes time.
Chris But but yeah, I just thought it was funny though how excited everyone seemed to be.
Adam Well, I know I know there's like, I think there was like someone's video of when they showed the trailer at Comic-Con.
Adam And the fucking noise level at the point of Chewie, where Han.
Adam Like of this just like crowd of geeks basically geeking to the stratosphere is is second only to Beatlemania, I would say.
Adam As any newspaper will do.
Adam But I mean, I I think at the time because I I think it was there was the Star Wars has been sold to Disney.
Adam And then it was oh J J Abrams is doing it.
Adam Okay, or J J Abrams to give him his proper name.
Adam And and then everyone and then like you say, it was like, well, we're going to get original cast back.
Adam And then the good thing, I think it was also when you watched the trailers and it was just it looked.
Adam It looked Star Wars for want of a better expression.
Adam Because I think for me, I wasn't too fussed about Disney buying it.
Adam Because I'd not long seen John Carter.
Adam Which I thought was a really good Disney film and it is a template for how Disney would do a Star Wars movie.
Chris Right, Disney is a funny thing.
Chris Because I still have a sense of not exactly liking Disney and yet so much of what they do is really great.
Adam Yeah.
Adam I I think it's I think you've now got to that point where there's people the people involved are basically.
Adam If you've gone to work for Disney, you're probably at the top of your game.
Adam But the people who are involved also clearly are people who loved it or grew up with it.
Adam So you know, so not not just Star Wars but any other properties that they've sort of bought up and things like that.
Chris Like Pixar.
Adam Yes, I mean, definitely, I mean, Pixar.
Adam That I think was just genuinely, I think that was a case of yeah, we better get in on this because they're basically out Disney-ing us.
Adam So.
Adam Well.
Lee 2D animation from Disney doesn't happen anymore, it's all about the CGI, so.
Adam Hm.
Adam I think Princess and the Frog was the last one, I think.
Chris Hmm.
Adam Really? Is that the very last 2D animated? I liked Princess and the Frog.
Adam I thought.
Lee I know.
Lee It is a really good one, I like.
Adam Yeah.
Adam But then I I haven't really seen a bad one if I'm honest.
Adam I like them all, all the Disney films, so.
Adam I I think it's just you there's certain things that you associate Disney with or certain things that get associated with Disney in terms of things like.
Adam But I think it's going back to the very sort of golden age of Disney.
Adam So you expect something a bit sort of like, I I think the template would be something like Bambi where it's like you expect it to be all nice.
Adam Or you expect it to be all cute.
Adam Yeah.
Adam But I mean, even though again because it's Disney and we and as they said on Robot Chicken Walt Disney fed off the tears of children.
Adam That's how he made his power.
Adam So, obviously, Bambi does start with, you know, your mother getting murdered.
Adam Much much like every other, I mean.
Adam The good thing, the weirdest thing is is that they've bought up.
Adam They've, you know, they've bought up Star Wars.
Adam And you know, it's like, sort of you know, sort of bits in Star Wars like there's genocide, ethnocide and stuff like that.
Adam But it still just feels it still feels a lot lighter than some fucking Disney movies.
Adam Where it's just like, oh, what's that Dumbo? Yeah, your mom's going fucking mad, so we had to kill her.
Adam You killed him.
Chris I I still haven't seen Bambi, so I think you've just completely spoiled it for me.
Adam I've not spoiled it, all I've just told you is that you might you you need to, yeah, that's true.
Adam You can't spoil something that's 60 years old.
Adam But I think I think also yeah.
Adam That literally that's the first five minutes.
Adam I think I can only think that Disney do that in a way so that it can only get better.
Adam In terms of the emotional thing, but it's just.
Adam Because.
Lee You've heard about Disney, Disney's like when he was in charge and how a lot of the characters are motherless.
Lee Because he because his mom died in real life because he bought her a house and the gas safety really wasn't done properly.
Lee And she died of carbon monoxide poisoning and he blamed himself for it.
Lee That's why that features in a lot of those films.
Chris I guess you'd feel guilty.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Chris Yeah.
Adam Yeah, but this is this is getting this is getting a bit Magritte though, isn't it?
Adam Where Magritte saw his mother being carried out of the pond with a blanket over her face.
Adam And it's like, right, every paint, I'll do sheet on the head, put sheet on his head.
Adam How many figures in it, three sheets on all the head.
Adam And it's the same with this now.
Adam It's like so um, so Walt, we've got this, we've got this film we're planning on doing.
Adam And it's a a little deer who goes out into the forest with friends.
Adam A wise wise ass bunny rabbit and he's like, does his mum die?
Adam Um.
Adam Well, we hadn't planned for that, kill the mum.
Adam That's it.
Adam I mean, fuck knows how they got like stuff like Robin Hood past it.
Adam I think.
Adam Did he not die?
Lee He passed away not long before that one.
Chris Did he?
Adam Oh, right, I thought he.
Adam Yeah, and it's the first.
Lee He never saw the completion of that.
Adam He did.
Chris So so what happened with this then?
Chris How did he get the uh the father killing scene in here?
Adam Go on, that's that's true.
Adam I mean, I again, I think that that's um yes, let's just say spoilers are swearing.
Adam I know I forget to do it every fucking time.
Chris Yeah.
Chris I'm pretty sure we listed it in big big letters on the.
Adam Oh yeah.
Adam We we we do, but you know, equally people can listen and may not read, I don't know.
Chris That's true.
Adam But we and I we do put it at the bottom of the thing, so it's a lot less it seems a lot more fun and we're jolly people.
Adam But.
Adam But definitely, I mean, that's I think that unfortunately, I mean, there's um.
Adam Friend of friend of the podcast and former Welcome to Horror guest Drew said that when he went to see The Force Awakens.
Adam Him and his missus were walking out, like, walking out afterwards, past the crowd of people queuing to get into the next showing and she loudly proclaimed, I can't believe they killed off Han Solo.
Adam Yeah.
Adam And he was like, I think he was shushing her both from a point of view of not wanting to spoil it for people, but also not wanting to get like lynched by a group of Star Wars fans.
Adam So.
Adam But yeah, I think but it's it's a remarkable thing that you suddenly realize that now that you know.
Adam It's a weird one where you think, oh, is Disney does seem to be putting it in safe hands.
Adam But also, it's like, who else is there?
Adam Disney have basically bought everything up.
Adam I mean, they've they've acquired because this was the thing as well as lots of people were like, oh, so Leia is now a Disney Princess.
Adam Um, although obviously in this she is General Leia.
Adam Because she's.
Lee Well, she never was a princess anyway, she was adopted, wasn't she? So therefore, she isn't by blood a princess.
Adam Yeah, but I think if we're taking the lines of primogenitor, I mean, it's sort of, you know, I think.
Adam They'll give they'll give it a loose one, I mean, they still called him Prince Harry.
Adam So, you know.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Adam But I think that um yeah, everyone was like also Leia is now a Disney Princess.
Adam But then also they pull up the Alien franchise and they started saying, so the Alien Queen is now a Disney Princess.
Adam And it's.
Chris Sounds fair.
Adam Stretching a point there.
Adam I technically, I would imagine she's much more of an evil queen, surely because she's much more like Maleficent or something like that, rather.
Chris Or is it well, isn't she just doing her nature?
Chris You know.
Adam She is.
Chris It doesn't mean be evil, it's just it's all it's all she can do.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah, she's yeah.
Adam A she is beyond good.
Lee And a woman with a big torch.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Starts killing her eggs.
Adam That was that was neat, she'll never forget.
Adam So.
Chris Yeah, terrible.
Adam I I also love the fact that Chris has betrayed his Android origins there by sounding exactly like Ash in the first.
Adam Okay, am I Irish, surely.
Adam Uh.
Adam Ah, but enough of these other spaceships and other other sequences and things like that.
Adam We are here to talk about The Force Awakens.
Adam So.
Adam We are heading to 2015, or and I'm doing this a bit like, you know, carry-on films.
Adam Where it used to be like carry-on doctor, or don't mind me.
Adam I've got a scalpel stuck up my crack.
Adam You know, so yeah, 2015, or Peeder Geddon.
Adam Or Year of the Nons.
Adam Or The Human Celebreped.
Adam Um, so um.
Adam The UK Prime Minister is David Pickfucker Cameron, um, as part of the Conservative Lib Dem coalition.
Adam And the uh President is Barack Obama, uh, and news stories that year include.
Adam Buckingham Palace denying any impropriety with underage minors by Prince Andrew after his named in the lawsuit against Jeffrey Epstein.
Adam Glad that one's been cleared up and put to bed and everything else like that.
Adam Doesn't prove they've been chitter chattering that for fucking six years.
Adam Um, Al-Qaeda gunmen break into the Paris headquarters of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, killing 12 and injuring 11.

Adam Um.
Adam This is remarkable.
Adam The UK finishes paying off its World War One debt.
Adam So yeah, I mean.
Chris Who was it owed to?
Adam This is the point though, isn't it?
Adam It's at the end when when they tell you that the world is in debt and you're like, yeah.
Adam Fucking Mars, Tatooine, the fucking Empire.
Adam Um, Jeremy Clarkson is sacked from uh Top Gear because he punched his uh producer because he couldn't get a hot dinner.
Adam And I've put here the fat overprivileged ponts.
Adam Uh, Pandora's Faction, an Irish setter dies of poisoning at Crufts.
Adam And there are a few other dogs fall ill in a massive escandalon.
Adam There's the Hatton Garden Diamond Heist, same sex marriage is legalized in Ireland.

Adam Um, the USA reestablishes his diplomatic relations with Cuba.
Adam I think Trump then fucked that over within about six months.
Adam Uh, NASA announces the discovery of liquid water on Mars.
Adam And then finally in December, an arrest warrant for Bill Cosby is issued on ongoing history of sexual assault charges.
Adam So as you can see, it was a pretty non-see year of um, yeah.
Lee And no nonsense non-see year.
Adam Yeah, I I am not and I'm not overstating this because literally I go through and it's like, right, big events that year.
Adam And that's all the ones that are coming up.
Adam And you're like.
Chris I didn't remember they were all in that year. I would have thought they were spread out of it, but.
Adam No, no.
Adam Apparently, it was uh yeah, it was pretty much pretty much 2015 was really the time for it.
Adam So I mean, a good thing we had 2016 where it just the entire of the entertainment industry died.
Adam So, you know, we could forget about this.
Adam You know.
Adam Ironically none of the nonces did.
Adam Ha.
Adam So, there we go.
Adam There there's one in the Eye of God.
Adam Um, on number ones in the charts included uh Bruno Mars, Mark Ronson, Ellie Goulding, uh, your your wife, Sam Smith.
Adam Uh Jess Glynne, Jason Derulo, Tinie Tempah, One Direction, uh, Little Mix, Adele, Justin Bieber and the NHS choir.
Adam So.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Probably just could have statuary is out on that year and you wouldn't have missed much.
Adam On TV, however.
Adam Stuff that started was Murder in Successville, Taskmaster, Cockroaches, Peter Kay's Car Share, Joe Scott.
Adam In and Out of the Kitchen, The Enfield Haunting, the uh Jekyll and Hyde that was done by Charlie Higson.
Adam I really, I really rather liked that.
Adam I mean, the guy played Jake and shit.
Adam But overall it was great.
Adam Uh Midwinter of the Spirit, This is England 90, Back in Time for Dinner, Money for Nothing.
Adam Doctor Foster, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.
Adam Uh Harry Price Ghost Hunter, No Offence, Drunk History, The Frankenstein Chronicles, Wolf Hall.
Adam Thunderbirds Are Go.
Adam That's the CGI one, isn't it?
Adam Uh Poldark, Humans, uh The Twirlywoos.
Adam Messy Goes to Okidou, Ninja Warrior UK, Victoria Derbyshire, The Keith Lemon Sketch Show and Michael McIntyre's Big Show.
Adam So, mixed bag there.
Chris Definitely. It's excellent to turds.
Adam Yeah, excellent to turds.
Adam Uh, and finishing that year were House of Fools, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Peep Show, Rastamouse, The Cube.
Adam Uh Russell Howard's Good News, Downton Abbey, My Mad Fat Diary, Lewis, Nutrix and Miranda.
Adam But.
Adam And obviously it's a big butt.
Adam We always like to see what was going on, if you'll excuse me as a moment, because I need to wet my whistle.
Adam Because I did that funny voice and then just nearly evaporate all the mucus in my gullet.
Adam Bear with.
Adam Um.
Adam So, 2015 in film.
Adam Uh, you've got The Woman in Black Two, Angel Death.
Adam Taken Three.
Adam Paddington, Ex Machina, The Hallow.
Adam Uh The SpongeBob Movie, Sponge Out of Water.

Adam Um, the brand new Testament, The Childhood of a Leader.
Adam Legend, High-Rise, Bill, Crimson Peak, Housed, Spectre, The Hunger Games, Mockingjay Part Two.
Adam Uh Creed.
Adam The Hateful Eight and The Revenant.
Adam In which um Leonardo DiCaprio is done by a bear.
Adam So.
Adam So there we go, a rather a rather interesting sort of mixture of stuff there.
Adam But also a lot of sequels which kind of suggests where things have been going.
Adam Where there's obviously a lot of people treading water there where it's like, I want to do another one.
Chris The one that stood out to me a sci-fi one was Chappie because Lee has told me several times that I need to watch it.
Chris And I haven't.
Adam Chappie's.
Adam Yeah.
Chris Chappie.
Adam Okay.
Lee Yeah.
Chris Okay.
Adam Chappie's.
Chris More people have told me I need to watch it.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Chappie Chappie's kind of like um Short Circuit with without without the sort of shmootz or the.
Lee It's Short Circuit with Di Antwood, that's it.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah, it's Short Circuit with the Antwood playing the Antwood.
Adam So.
Adam And it is um.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Definitely definitely worth a watch.
Adam Um, and um yeah, actually that's the best description, it's Robocop meets Short Circuit, I suppose.
Adam With with Di Antwood who uh clearly made a hell of an impression on the people there.
Adam Because they have not given a film since.
Adam So I suspect they may have been a problem.
Adam Who would have thought it.
Adam Who would have thought it?
Adam But yes.
Adam So.
Adam We get to The Force Awakens.
Adam Uh.
Adam Yes.
Adam So, I think it's kind of a new hope.
Adam In a lot of ways.
Adam Yeah.
Adam But.
Lee But isn't isn't New Hope like the absolutely perfect film for introducing a whole whole host of characters and environments anyway?
Adam Exactly.
Adam And I think that that's probably the smart move.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Because that was the thing we were saying about that when we covered a new hope, we were very much like this is, you know, like you say.
Adam Absolutely perfect introduction.
Adam It's contained within itself and but inspires you to want to see much more of it and everything.
Adam But the interesting thing, I think that's because there's there's two things that sort of happened with it is because in the because there's a obviously they wanted to keep as much under wraps as possible.
Adam But you are making Star Wars, so the interest is there, so the leaks are going to happen and things like that.
Adam But I don't think anyone in a weird way, I think that they kind of wanted to deflect attention from Rey.
Adam In pre because essentially Rey becomes the Luke of this trilogy.
Adam Yeah.
Adam But I think they wanted to deflect attention away, so they concentrated much more on Finn in trailers and promotions.
Chris Wasn't wasn't he the very first thing you saw on the first trailer?
Chris Was him sort of.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah, I think it was.
Lee On Jakku after the crash.
Adam That's it.
Adam Yeah.
Adam And also he was you also it was they showed you him with the lightsaber.
Chris Yes, yeah.
Chris Which that.
Chris That was quite a good little um misdirection, I would say.
Chris Because.
Adam Yeah.
Chris Yeah, yeah, it actually that that is a point they they did.
Chris Do a good job of not like you didn't know where it was going, really.
Chris Um.
Lee It's like even even the really impressive shot of BB-8 rolling across Jakku, you know, you had no contact to how that would fit in or how important it was.
Adam Hm.
Adam It was just really well thought out trailer.
Adam I thought and of course, you had the crowd pleasing.
Adam Shots of the Star Destroyer and that.
Chris Yeah, yeah, I made note that that that really was something.
Chris Seeing a Star Destroyer wreckage on a desert planet, yeah, like it was an interesting surreal feeling I seem to remember watching that trailer.
Chris And.
Chris And yeah, I guess a bit of worry like is this just going to be really awful.
Chris But you know, I think they took some chances.
Chris And I did really like the the idea of seeing it from in a way a Stormtrooper's perspective to begin with.
Adam Yeah.
Chris Like that doesn't last that long, but it's yeah.
Chris It was interesting to try that.
Adam I I think it's also because like we were saying about with like Mandalorian, where it's sort of like much more the sort of the working end like the the working class end of it.
Adam To take it from the perspective of just a like a grunt, just like a trooper who has clearly broken his conditioning.
Chris Individual thought patterns detected.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Lee In the original, in one of the original drafts for the script, it was supposed to happen slightly later in the film.
Lee And it was a load of rebels with to be taken aboard a Star Destroyer and he witnessed them being put in the airlock and blasted into space.
Lee That was the original thing that was supposed to turn him.
Adam I think it works better this way.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Adam In this one, he gets turned as soon as he gets blood on his helmet.
Chris So that that was the other thing, seeing the blood on the helmet, that was an interesting, it was subtle and yet powerful.
Chris Because you know, you don't see blood very often, do you, in Star Wars.
Adam Not in Star Wars, no.
Chris And so doing that, oh, that's that's that's yeah, that's a bit it's interesting how how well that worked, I thought.
Adam Well, especially you've got that contrast because you only ever see Stormtroopers like pristine.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Hm.
Adam And that's that's another thing with it as well, is I think that there's.
Adam They're certainly when they did, I think when.
Adam George Lucas was doing the prequels.
Adam There was there was a sense where people were like, hey, George, you can do the things you wanted to do.
Adam You're not limited by having to have sets or you're not limited by having to have people, essentially.
Adam You know, we can we can build robots that are impossible.
Adam But you can have them in this.
Adam And I think he took that so much to heart that that is where they lose.
Adam They kind of lose against the original Star Wars trilogy.
Adam Whereas.
Lee There's an element of detachment because there is so much of it, you can't comprehend it as.
Lee Well, take the clone army, we've all seen on, you know, news footage of armies and stuff like that.
Lee But never to that size and it does seem to, well, your brain goes into that, well, that's CGI, isn't it?
Lee Because you could never get that many extras.
Lee Whereas the scene in a new hope where they're collecting their awards, there's a a vast amount of people there.
Lee But it's a believable amount, so you think where did they get all those extras?
Lee You know.
Adam Yeah, because because some of them are cardboard cutouts, aren't they, in the original?
Adam In the in the original 77 car, the the ones.
Adam I think it's the ones nearest the back are actually blown up blown up photographs of the cast.
Adam But.
Adam But still, it it does actually have an impressive feel to it.
Adam And then yet weirdly, like the bit where General Hux gives his Nazi rally.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Hm.
Adam You know.
Adam Which under no circumstances is that anything else.
Adam Yeah.
Chris Yeah, because that's the thing, like Star Wars, you know, it it's it's definitely got that feel of um us versus them, evil Nazis.
Chris Type, but.
Chris Yeah, that was just so obvious.
Chris I I'd quite liked it, but.
Adam I.
Adam I like.
Adam Especially because it was him going a bit crazy with the power, it was just like, this is, you know.
Adam Everything I wanted.
Lee Very Hitler shouting.
Adam Yes.
Adam Because it's got that same thing where because you know, when you see when you see Hitler had a hysteria to it.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Chris Yeah.
Adam And it's that same thing that comes from and it's again sort of like evoking back sort of like with Mandalorian where you saw a lot you'd see a lot of.
Adam There was a a lovely cross-section of Imperial officers, some of whom were like, no, fuck this, he's got a gun, take the ship, you know.
Adam And the ones who were like proper die hard.
Adam The Empire.
Adam You know, the ones who were willing to top themselves rather than let the ship be taken and all that.
Adam And it's that sort of almost like religious fervor that you can get from these political groups.
Adam But it's like, but I do like the fact, I mean, obviously.
Adam The Empire is now called the First Order and that's pretty explicitly Nazi.
Adam Um, you know, like New Order and things like that.
Adam And yeah.
Adam I think there's just like in a weird way, it's quite nice that they sort of made no bones about it.
Adam Where it's just like sort of like.
Adam No, this is what the Empire is, do not be mistaken under any other fucking circumstances.
Adam These are the worst.
Adam You know.
Adam These are.
Adam And let's face it, it's you know, it follows the it follows the same trajectory of sort of like, you know, these are I don't know what you call extremists, but also extremists with um, you know, power, control, hatred and genocide.
Adam And it's all sort of like it's all you know, so it's kind of like the they're almost like the obvious go to, I suppose.
Adam But.
Lee There was one point with the new order.
Lee With the the First Order, I think you brought it up a couple of episodes ago, Ed, about how they are essentially an order of young people.
Adam Yes.
Lee And I was I was looking a bit more into that and how it's because because of technically all of a certain generation were brought up with the Empire.
Lee It's these ill-educated children that have grown up echoes today who never lived through it, who are now following this path because they don't know the consequences of it.
Lee And it's the same with the um rebels.
Lee But I think with this one.
Lee It's the rebels are really not as experienced.
Lee As the other rebels who fought for longer.
Lee But no, I I like the idea that it is they're a bunch of kids, so it's almost like kind of Lord of the Flies kind of.
Adam Yeah.
Lee Element they're playing at it.
Chris Yeah, I got that with Kylo Ren particularly and Hux.
Adam Definitely.
Chris Yeah, that they did feel just that bit younger and so, you know, trying to get one over on each other but in in a relatively unsophisticated way.
Adam Yeah, it's it's office banter.
Adam Yeah.
Lee And all the older officers in it, not not just this film, but the other one still to come, there's a real sort of downbeat, all right, kind of thing with the older officers in the the First Order.
Lee And I I thought that played out really well.
Lee That they really can't be asked the older ones, because they've already.
Chris They've seen, yeah, like from the greatness that they came from to this.
Lee And the the saying history repeat itself.
Adam Yeah.
Lee And it you understand they're not fit, they've already been through it.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Adam And you've obviously you've got like you say, with the with the rebels, they've they've obviously still got, well, they've got Leia still around.
Adam Hm.
Lee Yes.
Lee Yes.
Adam From to to be that sort of linking thing.
Adam But obviously everything everything from the Empire in terms of Vader, the Emperor.
Adam The like the governors and everything else like that have basically been wiped out.
Adam So like you say, it is a bunch essentially is a lot it's Smoke coming over like a gigantic CGI nonce.
Adam Yeah, who's who's grooming all these young people to be.
Lee Very fitting for the times.
Adam Yes.
Adam It does seem very fitting for the time.
Adam It.
Adam Is I I meant to look it up and I.
Adam It's Andy Serkis, isn't it, who's Smoke.
Adam Because obviously, well, we need someone.
Adam Well, Andy's got his own suit with thing on balls on it, we'll get Andy in.
Adam So.
Adam Um, because I remember there was there were a lot of theories going around and I don't want to get too into it.
Adam Because like I say, I've still not seen Rise of Skywalker.
Adam I know I know certain key things about it because again.
Adam You know.
Adam It's it's.
Adam The internet.
Adam Um, but there are certain things.
Adam That I don't necessarily want to delve too far into if they get explained later on.
Adam But I mean Smoke as a figure is quite mysterious within the bounds of this.
Adam And but there are a lot of theories going around.
Adam Now I was extremely disappointed to when it didn't that it didn't turn out he was Peter Cushing.
Adam Hm.
Adam Because.
Adam I thought he looked like a really, really, you know, fucked up Peter Cushing who might have survived.
Adam Yeah.
Lee Potato Cushing.
Adam Sorry.
Adam It looks like potato Cushing.
Adam Yes, yeah.
Adam More.
Adam More potato for the Cushing.
Chris I wasn't I was a little bit.
Chris Is is no emperor that.
Chris Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Chris It was like he's yeah, maybe.
Chris But that that was perhaps one of the things that felt a bit weak in this.
Chris Um.
Chris But it might be because I've never heard of him and it's like what, you know, but then obviously I hadn't heard of First Order or Kylo Ren, but somehow I kind of liked Kylo Ren as a like.
Chris I suppose the fact that he was Darth Vader's grandson, that I think that helped me to feel like, yeah, okay, there's a progression there.
Chris You know, and it's gone wrong, I kind of like that backstory.
Chris Um.
Adam Yeah.
Chris And I'd probably I'd already read about Han Solo and Leia's children from the books.
Chris Even though they didn't follow that properly.
Chris It um.
Adam No.
Adam Yeah.
Chris So I sort of felt connected in some way.
Chris But yeah, I just didn't have anything I was like, oh, Smoke.
Chris I have no idea, really.
Chris So I was hoping he was going to turn into something great, didn't exactly play out like that.
Chris But.
Adam I.
Adam I think I think also the the.
Adam It's slightly confusing inasmuch as they've gone with the obviously you only see him as on the hologram in this.
Adam And there was the question of, is he just fucking enormous, or is that because it's the projection?
Adam You know.
Adam Of.
Adam Him.
Lee He's a tall bastard, but it's a big projection, isn't it?
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Adam And that.
Adam That was the but again, I think it's because no one really seems to be.
Adam No one seems that concerned about Smoke, you know.
Adam Obviously Hux and Kylo Ren do and they they're very sort of you know.
Adam You understand he is powerful because of the way they are with him.
Adam Um because one of them's got a planet that blows up other planets and the other one's Kylo Ren.
Adam So you kind of think, well, if they're if they're sort of like bowing to this guy.
Adam He must be something.
Adam But like you say, I don't think it has that level of resonance.
Chris He hadn't been built up aside from.
Chris That obvious connection with them too.
Chris It was just he just like here's pretty much without much background being given.
Lee I thought after seeing the first film.
Lee That it was only Kylo and Hux that knew of him.
Lee But Leia actually refers to him.
Adam Yeah, she does.
Adam Yeah.
Lee So.
Lee But whether or not it's again.
Lee It's like the shadowy name rather than the individual, it's not really explained enough.
Lee To the what extent he is a threat.
Lee A known threat to everyone else.
Adam Yeah.
Adam So.
Adam I think yeah, I think there's there's sort of I mean it's it's.
Adam For want of a better expression, it's bravado and also there is an element where if your choice is kill or be captured by the Empire.
Adam Maybe you would try and press it.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Because it because let's face it, he's a reactionary little dick.
Adam So you're probably only about.
Adam You might as well.
Adam You're about three toms away from getting stabbed.
Adam So.
Adam You know, maybe there's almost that element to it.
Adam I don't know.
Adam But I know what you mean.
Adam Because I think because certainly I know.
Adam Again, you know, we don't want to sort of get ahead of ourselves, but I know in the next film.
Adam There was a lot of people were saying that it got too far where he was doing the collect call fucking thing, whatever.
Adam You know.
Adam Yeah.
Adam And understandably.
Adam But I don't think they they made too much of a too much of a sort of thing about it.
Adam Um, but certainly I think in this, it's done it's done to the right level and to the right amount of time.
Adam Without it getting into without it getting into the unbeleevableness of Kylo Ren has impact his head off.
Adam Yeah.
Adam You know, where which, you know.
Adam Let's face it, your not far from.
Adam Probably.
Adam Yeah, that's true.
Adam That's very true.
Adam I think that's that's one thing, all the fights in this are fucking vicious.
Adam I mean, when Rey gets thrown into the tree, that looks like that fucking hurt.
Adam Like a lot.
Adam And um.
